2001:  January is always a quiet time in the music world, but Mad Trucker Gone Mad, The Reptile Palace Orchestra, Big, Big Furnace, Exit, German Art Students are in the studio.
Lorenzo's Musicians: Brandon Krueger and Mark Whitcomb of Lorenzo's Music are writing the score for an independent feature film written and directed by NYC cum Madison resident Daniel Klein, tentatively titled "Pig Music."

Eddy Shaver (John Edwin Shaver) - Died 12-31-2000 - Overdose? (Rock - Country - Blues) Born 1962 - Was a guitarist for Shaver & worked with Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Dwight Yoakam, and his father Billy Joe Shaver.
Isaac Guillory - Died 12-31-2000 - Cancer (Folk - Rock - Pop) Born 2-27-1947 on the US naval base at Guantanamo, Cuba - Was a member of he Illusions, The Ravelles and played guitar, bass and keyboards for The Cryan' Shames. Worked with Donovan, Pacific Eardrum, Joan Baez, Barbara Dickson and The Buggles.

Jimmy Zambo (Imre Zambo) - The king - Died 1-2-2001 - Accidentally shot himself in the head (Pop) Born 1958 in Hungary  The Biggest Pop star in Hungary.
Rob Dawson - Died 1-2-2001 - Head on car collision (Rock - Folk -Classical - Pop) Keyboardist for Augie March.
Les Brown (Lester Raymond Brown) - Died 1-4-2001 - Lung cancer (Swing) Born 1912 in Reinerton, Pa. - Was the bandleader for The Duke Blue Devils and The Band Of Renown. Was the first president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
Milan Hlavsa (Milan 'Mejla' Hlavsa) - Died 1-5-2001 - Lung cancer (Psychedelic Rock) Born 3-6-1951in Prague - Was the bass player and singer for Plastic People Of The Universe.
Ben Cutler - Died 1-5-2001 (Jazz - Rock - Disco) Born 1905 - Bandleader and sax player.
James Carr - Died 1-7-2001 - Cancer (Soul - R&B - Gospel) Born 1942 Clarksdale, Miss. Was a member of The Southern Wonders Juniors and The Harmony Echoes.
Eddie LeJeune - Died 1-9-2001 - Heart attack (Cajun) Born 1951 in Ardoin Cove, Louisiana. -Accordionist (He did, "Grand Bosco") - Was a member of The Morse Playboys - Worked with D. L. Menard, Terry Huval, Hubert Maitre and Ken Smith - Son of accordionist Iry LeJeune.
Bryan Gregory - Died 1-10-2001 - Heart attack (Punkabilly-Rock) Born 1955 - Was the original guitarist for The Cramps, and was a member of Beast, The Dials and Shiver.  Gregory had been reported dead numerous times over the last two decades.
Jerry Wick (aka Cocaine Sniffing Triumph) - Died 1-10-2001 - Hit by a car while riding a bicycle (Punk) Born 1967 - Was a singer and guitarist for Gaunt.
 Luis Floriano Bonfa - Died 1-12-2001 - Cancer (Bossa Nova) Born 10-17-1922 in Rio de Janeiro - Guitarist and composer, helped found Bossa Nova music - His songs have been recorded by Placido Domingo, Julio Iglesias, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.
James Kelly - Died 1-12-2001 (Irish Folk) Born 1937 - Played accordion, fiddle, piano, and banjo - Was a member of The Connacht Ceili Band and Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann Irish Music Club  Irish Musicians Hall Of Fame Inductee.
Michael Cuccione (aka Jason "Q.T." McKnight) - Died 1-13-2001 - Respiratory failure (Pop) Born 1-4-1985 - Singer and actor (He did, "I Don't Wanna Say Goodbye" and "Never Give Up") He played in the boy-band spoof 2gether (They did, "Say It (Don't Spray It" and "The Hardest Thing About Breaking Up (Is Getting Your Stuff Back) for MTV - He co-authored a book with his grandmother, "There Are Survivors" and is the founder of The Michael Cuccione Foundation For Cancer Research.
Stan Freeman - Died 1-13-2001 (Night Club - Jazz - Pop) Born 1921 in Waterbury, Conn. - Pianist, composer, comedian and writer - Was a member of Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Band and Tex Beneke's Orchestra - Worked with Cy Walter, Mabel Mercer, Marlene Dietrich, Lee Wiley
 Rosemary Clooney and Percy Faith, and supplied music for Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett's television shows.
Jack McDuff  (Eugene McDuffy) (aka Brother Jack McDuff and Captain Jack McDuff) - Died 1-23-2001- Heart attack (Soul Jazz) Born 9-17-1926 in Champaign, Illinois. - Keyboardist and bandleader - Was the leader of The Heatin' System - Worked with Jimmy Witherspoon, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Sonny Stitt and many others.
