TOOL Salival Volcano Recordings www.toolband.com
Tool fans have been patiently waiting for a new release for nearly five years. The waiting is almost over. But not yet, the new CD is not set for release until April, 2001. In the meantime, however, Tool has given us SALIVAL. Salival is a special edition box set which contains a CD and a DVD. Now don't get excited, the DVD has only four videos on it. SOBER and PRISON SEX are the two videos from UNDERTOW, and STINKFIST and AENIMA are the two videos featured from AENIMA. Both are already available in streaming video at the band's website and all are awesome in DVD format. There are no special features on the DVD and the interface is icon based.
The CD audio disc is quite nice. It is somewhat like their freshman release "Opiate" in that it is mainly live with a few new studio tracks to hold those serious Toolheads over. THIRD EYE and PART OF ME are performed flawlessly while PUSH IT has a unique flavor and arrangement and features Aloke Dutto on Acoustic Tabla. One song fans are not as familiar with is YOU LIED, which is by bassist Justin Chancellor's band Peach. The Studio Gem of the CD is a rendition of Led Zeppelin's NO QUARTER. Amazing, as if it were a Tool song the whole time! And lastly, LAME, someone's bizarre (and probably true) interaction with the Los Angeles Municipal Court system. All in all, I love it. I am, however, still waiting patiently for the next studio release. Until then, I guess I'll have to suffer with A Perfect Circle, which hits the Exposition Center in Madison on March 21st (the day before BOMBLASTICA 2001), The Rave in Milwaukee on March 30th and will wrap up the tour on March 31st in St. Paul at the Roy Wilkens Auditorium.
