For a guy who's supposedly endured a life of drugs, crime, and poverty, Paul K's songs are pretty devoid of personality. Everything's well-written and borderline interesting, but K just doesn't have enough drunken moxie or smack-spikin' swagger to make his songs work. One convincing exception is the tune "The Doctor Will See You Now," on which K sings, "If I put myself inside you/I guess it would not make your day" in a way that only a sleazy, unkempt heel could. But really, only a true cad, sot, or damned soul could breathe life into this bore of a record. And that's too bad 'cuz the fat little piglet that works at my local CD exchange told me not to bring in obscure albums like this.
