This best-of album contains fifteen very metal songs from Sentenced’s three CDs, as well as five previously unreleased tracks. Formed in northern Finland, the band has a decidedly Nordic feel to them, with many references to things both dark and glorious. One can also hear the influence of classic metal bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, minus the falsetto vocals. Singer Taneli Jarva sings in a low, sinister voice. What’s interesting about this band is, although the majority of their original material is heavy and serious, they aren’t afraid to pull out a cover like Billy Idol’s “White Wedding” or Maiden’s “The Trooper.” Although these guys obviously take themselves very seriously, they at least have a mild sense of humor. Sentenced are not going to hit the Top 20 with their brand of music, but with hard touring and a little luck, they could establish themselves as a mainstay in the metal world.
