HiFi Report

Peal
Eldorado
(self-released)
Peal is the sonic equivalent of the Sid and Marty Krofft TV shows (HR Pufenstuf, the Bugaloos, Land of the Lost) popular in the late-70s - weird, confusing, better left unquestioned, but lots of  fun. It's said those TV shows made sense if you were on drugs. Maybe Peal does, too. Anyhow, Eldorado tears along on its own twists and turns, bringing the listener on a bizarre journey. "Rollerdonna" grooves on phat bass lines and funky guitar work, while "Argument" and "Mad at Me" stutter along in a more calypso/reggae way. It takes repeated listening for Peal's insidious charms to surface, but persistent listeners will be rewarded with highlights like the bass-happy "Electric" and "Sheriff Bark." Fans of safe Top 40 pop or anger rock will hate this disc. Recommended for mature, adventurous
audiences only!
