Rising from the ashes of the late, great Creature Custard comes Ham G, white-boy rapper. Ham’s band reads like an all-star roster of Madison musicians: Ham and bassist Greg Norman were the foundation of Creature Custard, and Norman deserves partial credit for transforming Pachinko from a virtually unlistenable horror show into a solid musical unit. Norman and sax-man Brave Abe also served time in Tiny Montgomery, Madison’s lovable connoisseurs of schmaltzy wuss-rock. As for Ham’s new EP on Mafia Money, I’ve got to say it’s some pretty cool shit, which comes as no surprise really. Best songs: “Rise” and “Funeral.” Good stuff. Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. Buy it.
