The Donnas
American Teenage Rock and Roll Machine
(Lookout!)
Let’s cut to the chase, squares: The Donnas are probably too cool for you. Yeah, Lookout! is the home of plenty of faceless, cookie-cutter pop-punk dinks, but the Donnas chainsmoke right past those clowns and end up in an alley of a different color. Side-stepping the common pitfalls of Lookout!’s roster, the Donnas are nothing less than a Runaways for the Pepsi Generation. And lord knows the kids could use ‘em. Had Joan and Lita spent more time listening to the New York Dolls and less time letting Kim Fowley pull the strings, they might’ve sounded like this. Raunchier than L7 and no where near as ugly, the Donnas flip the bird at anyone who dares stand in the way of their teenage party action. If’n I was ten years younger, well, never mind... But I’d buy booze for these kids any day of the week.
