Soul Motor Soul Motor (CMC International) Hailing from Sacramento, California, Soul Motor is the child of former Tesla bassist, Brian Wheat. While Tesla were the epitome of overproduced, ultra-slick eighties metal, Soul Motor is straight-on hard rock. Vocalist Darin Wood has a low, macho sounding voice and, for the most part, avoids the soaring Wagner-esque falsetto that some metal singers use. The album starts off with "Guardian Angel," which quickly establishes the bands aggressive style of power riffs and melodic breaks. Songs like "A Good Day To Die" and "Lizard Boots" are further examples of that style, both blending heavy guitar chords under melodic vocal and lead guitar lines. While the band doesn't seem to tour much, Darin Wood says, "...we're ready to focus on getting out there and playing in front of an audience." If they come to your town, they'll be worth checking out. Jeff Muendel
