IRV GOTTI
Irv Gotti Presents: The Murderers
Def Jam/Murder Inc. Records

Damn, this is some ignorant music.  Producer Irv Gotti brings together his Murder Inc. clique for a frustratingly monotonous and often unpleasant affair. "The Murders" are composed of the well-known Ja Rule and relative no-namers Vita, Tah Murdah, and Black Child.  To Gotti's credit, the instrumentals are decent.  However, if a given producer is worthy of compiling an entire album, he or she will bring more to the table than roughly 20 rehashes of the standard beats found throughout hip-hop over the last year or so.  Mr. Gotti definitely does not accomplish this.  In fact, I found the tracks to be so repetitive and mediocre that I had to eject the disc before reaching the end.  Rough.  And that's the more positive portion of my review.  Ja Rule and the rest of "the Murderers" need to stop rapping.  Throughout the 18 tracks that I was able to sit through, they touched on the same old gangsta rap clichés: money, cars, drugs, etc.  It's one thing to wax about the standard crap, but to do it for 25 tracks and in a manner that doesn't even illustrate the ability to create reasonable rhymes is intolerable.  So, if you want to hear people will unpleasant voices tell you how bad-ass they are over run-of-the-mill instrumentation "Irv Gotti Presents: the Murderers" should be at the top of your wish list.
