THE GLANDS
The Glands
Capricorn Records

Following in the footsteps of the Elephant 6 Orchestra groups from Athens, GA such as Olivia Tremor Control, Neutral Milk Hotel, Elf Power and Apples in Stereo, the Glands have managed to make their debut album a bonifide lo-fi indie rock hit. Unlike their predecessors who solely concentrate on composing experimental sounds, the Glands puts less emphasis on being abstract and more on putting a sense of dark beauty and mystique into their songs. While traces of early Pink Floyd sounds lingers through some of their tracks, their strategically complex arrangements and cryptic songwriting helps christen the album's psychedelic-like content. There is no reason why the Elephant 6 recording group should not accept the Glands into their family, but if by chance they don't, then maybe they can go to Beach Boys' Brian Wilson for some guidance.
