Kulczyk's Korner

Some random rants 'n raves from a random Max Inker...

by David Kulczyk

The Norwegians take their "Death Metal" seriously, too seriously.  In the spring of 1994, Varg Vikernes the frontman for the Norwegian Death Metal (a.k.a. Black Metal) band, Burzum was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the murder of Oystein Aarseth, the leader of another Black Metal band, Mayhem.  Aarseth, who is credited for being the Godfather of Norwegian Death Metal, was stabbed 23 times.  Vikernes - apparently owns a necklace made from skull splinters of Dead, the Mayhem vocalist who blew his own head off with a shotgun in 1991.  Three hundred pounds of dynamite was found in Vikernes's home, which police believed was to be used to blow up churches.

Overall, Norwegian Black Metal fans have caused over $10,000,000 worth of damage to Norwegian churches.  Arson is their usual method. Not really a fun bunch to hang out with.  Musically, Hypocrisy and Dismal Euphony couldn't get a Monday night show at O'Cays during football season.

Hoover Cain's third album is as excellent as their other two.  An inexplicable cross between 70's glam rock band, T-Rex and The Gun Club (or Jon Spencer, to you kiddies) with Alex Chilton singing vocals.  Hoover Cain leader, Jim Sykes got tired of dealing with record companies and distributors, so he's releasing this one free to download off the internet.  And it only takes twenty minutes.  Check out the Hoover Cain website at: http://hoovercain.com/indexa.html

The greatest intergalactic surf band from the future, Man Or Astroman?, will be gracing the city of Madison  on April 13th at the Inferno.  For more about Man Or Astroman?,  check out their incredibly cool website at : http://www.astroman.com/Frames/frames.html
